Ted and Jane Tofari left their jobs and their home nearly two decades ago and set out on a journey to visit every county in the United States — and not just in the lower 48. Settled into a motel on Highway 9W between Kingston and Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Wednesday, they flipped through the 3,022 completed pages of their album to refresh their memory of the on-again, off-again mission to see the country. "You do so much that you don't have a real good memory of everything," she said over the phone. "We can't spend an awful amount of time in any one place or we'd never finish." Their travels last week brought them through Pennsylvania, where they crossed the 3,000th-county threshold. That honor went to Lehigh County. Northampton County came in at 3,001. They have just 93 counties left in the lower 48. Then home.
