In the previous period, the discussion about the loot boxes caused a huge response among the players. The player's tough attitude towards the loot boxes made some game companies (I believe you know this company) compromised. This war has spread to Poe, and some players believe that poe should immediately cancel the out of the loot boxes. Well, I have some opinions on this matter. First of all, we need to know what loot boxes are. We can't criticize an unknown thing. Let's take a little look at why players are so disgusted with loot boxes. A loot box is a digital randomized thing, typically purchased in-game and resulting in a random reward of in-game content. Some content is more valuable than others, leading to some referring to loot boxes as a form of gambling, particularly when some of the game content can provide benefits to players in multiplayer settings. Overwatch popularized loot boxes somewhat in 2016, although mobile games have used some flavor of this kind of monetization for pretty much ever. The gaming public never really liked this concept, with many arguing that it breaks in-game competition by giving players willing to pay for loot boxes an advantage. But the loot box fervor hit its pique after the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2, with EA being forced to massively alter how its loot boxes worked in game. Since then, loot boxes are a topic of consumer backlash as a general rule. Except things are not that black and white. Ever. The issue the majority were having with EAs loot boxes was that they actually give you an edge in the game, by unlocking better characters and weapons etc with the boxes THAT YOU COULD NOT OTHERWISE GET. Path of exile loot boxes are purely cosmetic, offer no in game advantage and the cosmetics pulled from loot boxes WILL BE ABLE TO BE BOUGHT INDIVIDUALLY WHEN THE LOOTBOX PRONO ENDS Not to mention GGG actually publish the odds of getting specific items from the loot boxes. But, we will always have people who don’t know how to think for he selves, just on any popular internet opinion and not be able to differentiate between cases. Everything is black or white to those if people incapable of forming their own opinions. GGG follow all the required loot box laws. You can see what your chance of each thing is on the website. They even go the extra mile and add all the loot boxes items in the next league at some point. The entire game model is exploitative given that it is basically a skinners box type thing. Does that mean they should delete the game? No. It means it's up to the individual to be responsible. Loot boxes are fun for the exact reasons they can be exploitative. Even regular gameplay is designed to be addicting, because that is exactly what makes it addicting - it is designed to be fun, and fun things are addicting. This also has indeed already been discussed multiple times in the past. The consensus seems to be that GGG has one of the best implementations of loot boxes and microtransactions in general of all F2P games. If you like this game and want it to be better, then the appropriate consumption, I think is very reasonable. GGG has made an effort to prevent players from indulging in gambling (in fact, there are almost no gambling elements in the game)
