Rehabilitation Power Day 2013 Introduction to Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power Founded by a group of dedicated disabled professionals in 1995, the Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power ("HKRP") is a non-profit and charitable rehabilitation organization strives to advance the welfare of handicapped persons, individuals with chronic illnesses and the ex-mentally ill people, now serving over two thousand people in Hong Kong. Their vision is to promote social integration of people with and without disabilities and create equal opportunities. And their mission is to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve economic self-sufficiency, independent living, inclusion and integration into all aspects of society. My first time to be a volunteer for Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power by joining the "Rehabilitation Power Day 2013" three years ago. Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power had organised a "Play Day" in Victoria Park for nearly 500 children with special needs. My duty was to decorate and set up before the event start. That means I went Victoria Park in the early morning when the sky was still dark and did early preparation for the event. I remembered all of my classmates were sleepy in the early morning but we still worked hard and finally finished the set up smoothly. During the preparation works, we needed to carry heavy resources back and forth no matter there was male or female because everyone was busy and had too many works required to finish on time. Although we have not many helpers, we finished all our works much early before the event start. The organiser thought that we were helpful so he gave us drinks and praise. Even though we are no longer being a child, we love praise. The most memorible thing was that we all left home before 6am, we started working at 7am and finished at 10am. However, between the process of being a volunteer, no one felt tired, also we were full of energy and felt exciting. It is because the event was helding for children wih special needs, we all felt satisfied after that. I had been volunteer for many times but I believe this is the most meaningful one which can totally bring us away from sleepiness.
