LED is simply an acronym for light emitting diodes. Thus, a LED flashlight is the light that is produced through light emitting diodes. This of course contrasts with the orthodox incandescent bulb. As a matter of fact, LED flashlight which is a newer technology is cooler, tougher and yet more efficient than the incandescent bulb. For us to fully understand all we need to know about this new technology, it is imperative for us to take a look at its functionality. Unlike the orthodox incandescent bulb, LED flashlight is generated by the action of electrical energy on a semiconductor. Two types of semiconductors are usually employed to bring about this effect. While one of these has lots of free electrons, the other semiconductor must be in lack of electrons. A threshold is usually accomplished whenever enough electric energy is supplied and once this occurs, free electrons are emitted by the first semiconductor that has abundant electrons. Interestingly, these emitted electrons have no other option than to move to the other semiconductor. Once they reach there, particles of light otherwise known as photons are release. Then, how come we have different color of LED flashlight? Well, the explanation of this is very clear. The color of the emitted color is solely determined by the nature of the semiconductors as well as the amount of the electric energy required to bring about the emission. Usually, low amount of electrical energy is required to emit red light while high amount of energy is required for the emission of blue and white light. The rechargeable lamp manufacturers brightness of the light is also determined by the number of light emitting diodes in the bulb. The bulbs consume less power as the LED flashlight used only 5-10% of the electrical energy needed to power an equivalent number of incandescent bulbs. This of course saves batteries and money for you.No matter the type of semiconductor that is used, LED flashlight generally has high penetrating power. It\u0092s very possible for the light to be seen from a distance of 1.6 kilometers. This feat can never be accomplished by the incandescent bulb.Even though this wonderful source of light is relatively costlier than the orthodox incandescent bulb, it saves much money and energy on the long run. With all of these advantages it's clear that LED technology is lighting our way to a brighter future.
