當日本人遇上意大利火車 When Japanese meet Italian train 如果說日本人是最守時的民族，我想應該也沒甚麼異議。但當一個要以秒來計算火車延誤的民族，遇上事事都"Domani, domani... (明天，明天吧...)" 的意大利，那種著急也非筆墨可以形容。 對我來說，意大利火車的準點率還算是可以接受的，雖然延誤上百分鐘，甚至是幾小時的情況也不是罕有，但火車大致都可以在合理時間內把你送到目的地。呃，意大利南部的情況稍有不同，FSE公司的火車算是從不準時，當你等著預定的貨車，來到的卻是上一個班次。 日本人的冒險精神是值得佩服的，在意大利南部看到的亞洲遊客，大多都是日本人。雖然語言不通，但他們通常都準備充足，手持一疊火車時間表的日文譯本，準時到達火車站候車。奈何火車遲遲都未到達，也不清楚車站的廣播，最後只能在車站乾著急踱步。 我也漸漸明白那個古惑的火車時間表，反正從來沒有人知道火車甚麼時候到達，任何時候都是候車的好時間。對我來說，延誤可能其實是一種人情味...... Japanese could be the most punctual ethnic group in the world. When the people who count train delays in seconds meet the Italians who always say "Domani, domani... (Tomorrow, tomorrow...)", the anxiety is not easy to imagine. Personally, I think the punctuality of the Italian trains is acceptable. Although delays of hundreds minutes are not unheard of, normally the trains can send you to the destination within reasonable time. Well, things could be different in the South. FSE could have the record of having trains never on time. While you are waiting for a train, the one shows up could actually be the previous one. Most of the Asian tourists in the Southern Italy are Japaneses. They may not speak the local language, but they are always prepared, with some translated copies of the train schedule in the hands. They would arrive at the train station early, but there was no hint of any train. The Italian announcement couldn't help much. The only thing they could do is wandering around the platform. Later, I started to understand that train schedule. As nobody knows when the train will arrive, any time is a good time to wait for the train.
