It is not the first time I visit La Vache! Yes, I seldom visit the same restaurant in Hong Kong given such a big market and new openings in HK's dining world. Decent quality charged decently with a little special, is my basic rule to criteria a restaurant, and La Vache! wins. Simple, is their winning point to me, just like ads commercial slogan 'Less is More', besides satisfying the basic human being's desire on feeding, sometimes, to keep everything simple and even take away the choices from your clients, is the best way to satisfy them (especially to those complicated client who's always too struggling to a long list of dishes and drinks, like me :D). It's a basement restaurant on Peel Street, near Soho area, but a little hidden corner, well anyway, it doesn't matter a lot if it's good enough. Except French-style steak, you have no second choice there whatever lunch or dinner (of course you will be presented a lot of choices in wine list). The restaurant is quite small, but the dining space is still comfortable enough. It's very French romance there. Scratch painting fully occupies the walls to show the 'mass' Paris and Palace of Versailles. (hope i'm getting a 'bingo'...). It's kind of old-fashion decoration by using red and brown color to create a cozy, comfort and warm environment. Ohhhhh, of course, such a Paris-style space cannot be without French music, but luckily they have a good collection. The restaurant is managed by French-speaking manager, cheerful and nice, and willing to talk bullshit with you, which to me, is a quite important criteria to a western restaurant as its soft side. Room temperature unsalted butter with French baguette, we cannot argue more! Both of them are awesome enough to shut our mouth off and just yum-yum (chewing hardly). I love their baguette very much. It's hard and crispy outside and soft, semi-moisture inside with a strong but natural wheat aroma. With the cool butter slowly melting into the breads, we were melting at the same time. "Can we have more baguette? :D" (that's what we do all the time even we know we will be served with unlimited French fries!!!) I don't have many words about the walnut salad, it's very simply with a plate of fresh salads and walnuts; almost without any sauce (but actually a little), fresh taste, that's it. French steak, of course, is the most important part. I still remembered the first time I tried it, was quite not ok, coz I found they are not good at a medium-rare one, instead, they did a very good job on medium one every time. Covered by a layer of greasy oil and deep brown color. It's fresh pink inside. Most of the time, it tasted quite tender and juicy, with an acceptable potion of fat. Their unlimited French fries is not only a trick to attract clients, but a real presentation of good quality fries (I and my friends even focused more on the fries and baguette). Of course, it's better to have those lovely thin-cut fries when it's fresh hot, but the cold ones or the slightly over-done ones are not that bad indeed (except you will hate to the oil coming out itself). "Do you want some more fries?" "Yes please :)" (After twice refilling already) I will say, except you are totally a French fries avoider, you will have at least twice refilling there. Maybe I was too impressive by the baguette, steak and fries, I almost forgot the dessert is included in the menu. It's really a big sweet-bite after your stomach has already run up to 100% capacity. Luckily, we are girls, and we always have another stomach for sweets. Chocolate puff with vanilla ice-cream, decorated with milk-chocolate chip and walnuts, and last trick before you destroy this presentation is, a shower of dark chocolate. This one can satisfy you enough if you are ok for everything sweet! $258 minimum charge per person (the basic steak meal described as above without any drinks or service charge) La Vache! 48 Peel Street Central Hong Kong +852 2880 0248 Mon to Sat. 12nn - 2.30pm & 6pm till late Sun. 6pm till late Facebook | Instagram Please give a LIKE to my Facebook Page !
