I have been visited to MACAU, KAIPING & GUANGZHOU through the 3 days field trip held by the University of Hong Kong. This JOurnal is all about my experience and insight during the trip. MACAU THE VENTIAN MACAO It is a luxury hotel and casino resort in Macau, which is a grand building with nice artwork and decoration. For common visiting, we walk around the casino, shopping arcade. This time, it is a good opportunity for me to visit the supporting facilities of the building.The facility management supports the proper operation of the building. The instructor guide us for visiting those E&M plant room, services centre, kitchen, etc., let us have a better understanding how the building services system and human resources management supporting the building sustainability. Furthermore, there is an innovative uniform system, which manages the entire in-house staff uniform inventory. It allows the assignment and daily pick-up of uniforms. Besides, it is also impressive that the staff canteen serves more than 10000 staffs everyday. GRAND LISBOA It is a tallest hotel building in Macau, which is a landmark attracting numerous tourist . This iconic building is designed by Hong Kong Architect firm. The building lobby displays Stanley Ho's private collection.Nevertheless, Casino Grand Lisboa plays the important role of the gambling industry in Macau. It is remarkable that gambling tourism is Macau biggest source of revenue. CLUB MILITAR It is the heritage, located nearby Grand Lisboa. The government motivates to support all the major repair work, keeping the valuable asset up to date. Nowadays, it is a clubhouse, with one of Macau's most atmospheric and historic dining halls. LOU KAU MANSION This "Xiguan" residential building was the home of Lou Kau, which is a two-storey, traditional grey-brick courtyard house. The courtyards adjacent to the main halls optimize the use of daylight. The interior decorations integrate both Chinese and western elements. eg Portuguese-style blind windows with stained glasses. Nowadays, the mansion is open to public. RUINS OF ST. PAULIt was originally St. Paul's College and the Cathedral of St. Paul. The ruins only consist of the southern stone facade, which sits on a small hill, with 66 stone steps leading up to it. Nowadays, the ruins are one of Macau's popular landmarks. TAP SEAC SQUARE It is one of the 4 largest squares in Macau with Portugese-style flooring, which is surrounding by the important historic buildings, including Cultural Affairs Bureau and Macau Central Library, etc. Nowadays, there are many art activities hold here. KAIPING CHIKAN It is an old town, where has experienced the phenomenon of Urbanization. European style street was invested and built by the inhabitants of Chikan. However, the bird has flown.Nowadays, the town is developing with tourism industry. There is a tourist shopping street along the river and a film & tv studio city. The historic building attracts the movie being filmed here. 點擊圖片放大 KAIPING DIAOLOU It is a fusion of Chinese and Western structural and decorative forms. It is mainly served the purposes of defence, community and residence.The multistory watchtowers were built as a defensive response to invader. Besides, the towers could be a refuge from heavy flooding. GUANGZHOU GUANGZHOU CIRCLE The newly constructed building resembles an ancient Chinese copper coin. It is the world's tallest circular building, with a central hollow hole. The special design is that the reflection of the circle on the Pearl River makes an image of the number '8'. PEARL RIVER TOWER It is an innovative green building, which is designed with sustainable architectural and E&M system. The sustainable design features include wine turbines, solar panel, raised floor ventilation, double-skin curtain wall etc.Energy saving is a hot topic in the society. Developer, Architect and Engineer works together to achieve its goals, a green building would be a role model in the city, even the country. The green city of the future are no longer just on paper.The wind turbine generator is a device that converting kinetic energy into electrical energy, which is known as clean renewable energy. It is not a new stuff, but it must be a remarkable and innovative design when it is incorporating into high-rise building. GUANGZHOU OPERA HOUSE It is a cultural building in Guangzhou, with the theme of triangle, and white-colour tone. The facade is constructed with the irregular steel frame coupling by the triangular glass. The interior design is mainly the composite of the white reinforced gypsum.Without doubt, it is a great modern auditorium. However, there are demerit of the whole development, such as construction quality and consideration of O&M. As observation, some cladding and glass panel are broken. Furthermore, the accessibility of some space are found difficulty.The communication and cooperation between Architect, contracting parties and facility management team should be highly concerned. GUANGZHOU LIBRARY It is the public library in Guangzhou, which consists of two building arranged parallel to each other. It features a circulation area, reading area and activities space. The two large atrium spaces optimize the levels of daylight for the public area.There is a new construction nearby the Guangzhou Library. It is discovered that the facade is not yet competed. However, the curtain wall have been installed from the top end, which is not the traditional construction procedure of the facade system. I am questioning for this act??? GUANGDONG MUSEUMIt is a modern large-scale comprehensive museum, with special infrastructure. At the gate of this building, there is a bulky cantilever hovering above. It is deduced that the walls and floors of this facade hanged from the roof.At its artrium, it is found that each elevation are shielding by aluminium panels, which may help to reduce indoor echo, while the area filled with daylighting. CANTON TOWER It is the tallest structure in Guangzhou, with a twisted shape. At the floor of observation desk, it offers a great view over the city.The waist of the tower contains a 'Spider Walk', where visitors can physically climb the tower. And I am one of them looking for adventure.
