Toyota Etios in hatch and notchback segments Toyota Etios the name means 'the origin of', Etios is surely an origin of unique concept cars in the Indian Auto market. Toyota would be manufacturing Etios in both hatchback and sedan variants. Both segments are expected to have a 1.2 litre and 1.5 litre petrol engines but the production of the diesel variant is on hold for now. Toyota Etios was at display at the Delhi auto Expo 2010 and evoked curiosity among onlookers. Toyota had showcased both the hatch and notchback body styles at the auto expo but the notchback is expected t be launched three months before the hatchback. The launch date is not yet confirmed but as per the speculations in the market Etios is expected to hit the roads by 2010 end. Toyota has kept most of the details very hush, but it is expected that the car is suppose to have DOHC 16-valve engine with a 1200cc displacement. To make the car appealing to the masses, Toyota has tried to keep the price competitive almost at par with Maruti Swift and other premium hatchback cars like Fiat's Punto, Hyundai's i20 and Skoda Fabia. Toyota Etios looks, for both the hatch and notchback segment, are sharp and the big smiling grille that has been high-mounted especially for India gives the car a very tough look. Toyota Etios also has a strong shoulder line with an upward cut along the bottom of the door. The interiors are also good and contemporary and both the segments sport a centrally mounted instrument panel with offset AC vents. Etios is roomy and spacious in comparison to Swift. The performance and capabilities of the car are still to be tested and verified to come to a better conclusion regarding its performance and efficiency.
