The medium flows through the interface between the inner and outer spaces, that is, the sealing surface leaks. The root cause of leakage is the existence of gaps on the contact surface, and the pressure difference and concentration difference on both sides of the contact surface are the driving force for leakage.Due to the influence of factors such as the form of the sealing surface and the processing accuracy, it is inevitable that there are gaps on the sealing surface, which will cause the sealing surface to not completely match and cause leakage. To reduce leakage, the contact surface must be fitted to the greatest extent, that is, to reduce the cross-sectional area of the leakage channel, increase the leakage resistance, and make it greater than the leakage driving force.Applying a compaction load to the sealing surface to generate compaction stress can increase the contact degree of the sealing surface. When the stress increases enough to cause obvious plastic deformation of the surface, the gap between the sealing surface can be filled and the leakage channel can be blocked.The purpose of using gaskets is to make use of the characteristics of gasket materials that are easier to produce plastic deformation under the action of compression load, so that they can fill up the small unevenness of the flange sealing surface, thereby achieving sealing.
