Photo from: http://www.ecomanta.com/2012/07/louis-vuitton-and-interior-design-upper.html Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese avant-garde artist. She is also a painter, sculptor, filmmaker, and performer. She is born on 22 March, 1929 in Matsumoto City, Nagano prefecture, Japan. She is the fourth child in a wealthy, prosperous and conservative family. The fracture of her family caused her usual personality of isolation. About ten years old she began to suffer from visual and auditory hallucinations that often involved fields of dots, the result of a volatile family environment. She began experiencing hallucinations that often involved fields of dots. Those hallucinations and the theme of dots would continue to inform her art throughout her career. Family conflict and the desire to become an artist drove her to move in 1957 to the United States, where she settled in New York City. Before leaving Japan, she destroyed many of her early paintings. She went to the United State when she is only 27 years old. In that era, it is difficult to study or work aboard. She begins working on her ‘Infinity Net’ paintings in 1958. Then, she started to be famous from that time. I admire Yayoi Kusama very much. It is not easy for a girl to study and work in the United State alone. She may face the sex discrimination, racial discrimination and economic problems. It needs a huge of courage to chase the dream. However, she did it successfully at the end. She becomes one of the most famous artists of the world. I hope one day, I can chase my dream recklessly like Kusama. I think the happiest thing in the world is you can engage in doing your favourite things in your whole life. But it is not easy to achieve because we have to face the reality problem like earning a living.
