"Tsang Kin Wah - Nothing" exhibits in M+ Pavilion at the West Kowloon Cultural District. This exhibition is my recent favourite. There are only 5 to 6 artworks but they will give you an out of expectation experience. There is a installation in the open-air terrace of the M+ Pavilion designed by Tsang. He has covered the exterior walls of the M+ Pavilion terrace with mirrors, creating a seemingly endless space in which we can see multiple "selves". Besides, you can see many words on the ground. It seems someone is talking to himself in his mind. The guide asked us to walk around the terrace for three times quietly. When you were walking around the terrace, you would keep on seeing yourself in the mirror. My face changed from a smiling face to a poker face. I started to feel bored by keeping on doing the same thing. Actually, our lives are also like that. We are continually repeating the same thing day by day. Finally we may go back to the starting point. It is meaningless and boring, however, that is life. We want to find a space to stop over in our routine lives. Tsang told us how he explore the meaning of life. Before entering the exhibition, the artist's conclusion on the ground, leading you to get in. "THIS IS THE ONLY WAY / THIS IS THE WAY". The exhibition room is dark. It brings you from day to night. The tree metaphor extends throughout the exhibition, from the tree on the terrace to another one projected on a glass wall in the gallery. This scene is from the film - The Turin Horse by Bela Tarr. It is cold and you can see the wavering tree with the strong wind blowing sound. Although I feel solitary and lost at the beginning, surprisingly I want to stay there. I try to sit at the back and close my eyes to feel it. My feeling turns to be peaceful. I realize that it makes me to reflect on myself, on the meaning of my life. In the corner of the gallery, there is an oppressive mood room. The background music is playing from something relaxing to anxiety. You can see different words appear on the wall. "LOVE", "YOUR UNHAPPINESS", "HATE", "RIGHT HERE", "HERE I AM" and so on. In this room, I can face and release my feelings and cope with solitude and isolation there.
