Recently, I have been to the Painting Exhibition 2016 in the Exhibition Gallery of Hong Kong Cultural Centre organized by Tai Ping Zhuang Arts Association. This exhibition presents about 100 art pieces from the members of the association. This exhibition is seamlessly blending Western and Chinese culture of painting. You can find that there are traditional Chinese landscape, Chinese brush painting, Chinese calligraphy, prints, oil painting and watercolor painting. I will show you some paintings that I have strong impression. This painting impressed me a lot. This is "A Homeward Journey" by Chung Siu Ping. Actually it is a traditional Chinese painting, but I can't recognize it as a Chinese painting at first. The painter mixes with some western painting technique in her painting. Chinese painting uses highly detailed brushstrokes that delimits details very precisely and Western painting tends to use the gradations of colour to show the real scene to people. The painter makes use of Chinese ink to outline the shape of the cows, the man and birds with the subtle gradations of colour. This painting changes my mind of the image of the Chinese painting. Chinese painting can also be various and interesting. This is the only one print in the exhibition. This is "Composition" made by Wong Shuk Ha. It is a three-dimensional relief print. The painter used the color of grey, silver and gold on different sizes of the oval-shaped to give you an illusion of thinking that it is real stones. This oil painting called Gathering painted by Han Sau Kuen. It is one of the style of impressionism that the painting does not have any outlines but only colors and lights. You can see that there are many blurry people in the background. It is not easy to recognize because the painter used many similar colors. Those blurry background can let you focus more on the girl what she is doing. However, it is difficult for me to recognize what are there in the background. It is suggested that the painter should elaborate more on her painting. It is happy to see that there are many different kinds of the painting of Chinese and Western style in the same exhibition. Some painting even can combine both Chinese and western culture well. After visiting this exhibition, I am no longer think that Chinese paintings are bored and dull.
