We had a chance to visit some local industries on day 3. I could never have imagined that ‘hell money’ (paper sacrifice for burning dedicating to ancestors) is made out of bamboo. Strong base solution is used to soften the bamboo, plus the fact that white lime stone has high reflection of sun light and is slightly corrosive so workers in this task are paid high (USD15 per day). However both the workers we met have eye sight problems for many years and we did not see any protective measures being employed except a pair of sun-glasses. 1. Strong base solution is used to soften the bamboo 1. Strong base solution is used to soften the bamboo 2. Paper-making, filtering out from sedimentation tanks 3. It only takes a few seconds to burn a piece of hell money away but it takes two weeks, seven long procedures to produce one piece. Even more labour and time if that is a dyed (gold or silver) money note. No doubt a kind of complicated labour intensive consumables. ========================================================== * * FACEBOOK Page : https://www.facebook.com/cherish.as.i.see.it * * * * FLICKR : https://www.flickr.com/photos/hytony/ * * ==========================================================
