Tin Hau Parade is an annual festival of Peng Chau. It has same importance as Chinese New Year to local residents and the nature of festival similar to the renowned Bun Festival in Cheung Chau. Tin Hau (Goddess of Sea) takes a stroll along streets and paths on Peng Chau to bring safety to people. There are 7-8 teams participating in the parade. This important celebration of the year brings great and unique atmosphere to Peng Chau once a year. This was my first visit to Peng Chau and couldn’t believe I was lucky to join this amazing event. Compare with the bun festival parade being so packed with visitors, the parade in Peng Chau is more approachable and calm, but not worse at all! Visiting every corners of main streets and side paths, residents and shops on both sides have already prepared joysticks and sacrifice to greet the goddess in hope of safety to family The largest ‘King Of Ghost’ for Hungry Ghost Festivals in HK 舞麒麟Qilin 小女孩也參與舞麒麟Young girl dancing with Qilin 巡遊隊伍中的樂器也具傳統中國特色:嗩吶Suona (Chinese shawm): traditional Chinese musical instrument 道教士一直走在隊伍最前列,為天后開路Taoist Priests stand in the front patrolling the road for Tin Hau 「行鄉」中途在志仁學校操場集合稍作停頓,當然阿禡一停下來就有善信趕著上香祈福。Parade pauses at Chi Yan school playground. Joss sticks are 100% ready well before A-ma arrives. 天后出巡Tin hau is here. I never watched Qilin dance before and was amazed by its energy and skills required! The head keeps twisting and it has got more movement than dragon dancing. This guy also made great effort in his role being witty and amusing. Sustainability is so important in today’s traditional culture conservation subject. Visiting every corners of main streets and side paths, residents and shops on both sides have already prepared joysticks and sacrifice to greet the goddess in hope of safety to family. Fishes, crabs and lobsters are always welcome in parade. The finale of parade under an entertaining beat and rhythm: participants dash along a long street to the temple together with instrument, dragons and lobsters… what a scene! The Interesting bits and pieces on Peng Chau Cherish More
